While it is very convenient to cook meats in a slow cooker, it is important that you are very careful or you can be at risk. Any meat that you plan on adding to a cooker needs to be browned first so that it reaches food-safety standards for temperature.

Soup is a great way to get rid of leftovers, and it makes a huge pot so it can feed the hungry masses. My kids (and husband for that matter) are as picky as they come, yet they all like my homemade chicken soup. And I like to think I'm passing on the tradition of homemade for my kids to pass on to their kids.

Lima, Peru is well known for its fantastic food and excellent restaurants. But not everyone is interested in the restaurants found in the guide books. The best Lima restaurants are the places where the locals go to find authentic traditional food.

Buy a slow cooker whole chicken lemon and either roast it in the oven or put it in the crockpot to cook. From that one chicken, you can enjoy an evening meal, chicken salad the next day from the left over chicken, and then cook the carcass in water with vegetables such as onions, celery, carrots, and parsley for a great chicken soup. Three meals from one chicken is an economic powerhouse.

This slow cooking method is ideal for making chili, stew and soup, as well as pot roast, chicken, turkey and lamb. You can save money by using cheaper and tougher cuts of meat and finish with the same tenderness as the more expensive cuts. In fact you can save enough money in a very short time to pay for the more expensive slow cooker.

Place chicken, breast side down, into a roasting pan. Bake in 350* oven for 60 minutes. Remove from oven and carefully turn the chicken breast side up and place back in the oven for at least 30 more minutes. This method will help the breast remain moist and tender.

Good vegetables to add include carrots, celery and onion. These 3 make a good basic stock, with any meat you choose. Veggie burgers are often made from combinations of carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, black beans and some sort of ingredient to bind everything together such as oatmeal or breadcrumbs.
